IT’S MY BIRTH MONTH. plus a giveaway.

Some of you are probably aware that I am a big fan of my own birthday. Usually, July 1st hits with a fanfare of birthday festivities and proclamations and all sorts of huffah. Since I’ve gotten older (not that old. just a little oldery) the celebration has been downsized a bit. Turning twenty three just wasn’t quite the same as turning my sweet sixteen, know what I mean? Last year I had a GLORIOUS birthday with purple helium balloons and an amazing, legendary shark cake. Quaint, but perfect.

We have so many family birthdays in July that I can’t hog it all to myself anymore, which is 30% depressing, 70% okay with me. Well, maybe 40/60.  50/50? I shall simply celebrate my BIRTH WEEK instead of my entire BIRTH MONTH! Yippee! Today is Monday, July 12th, and I turn 26 on Friday, July 16th. We have all week to part-ay.

To kick off my Big BirthWeek Celebration, I am hosting another giveaway! Exclamation point! This giveaway is sponsored by CSN Stores, and if you haven’t been to one of their online stores you are seriously missing out. They have tons and tons of products- housewares and table lamps, gardening stuff, grills, mountain bikes, shoes, baby crap, you name it, they have it. Plus, lots of items are shipped for freeeeee. For this giveaway (since it is my birthday and all), I was going to pick something specific from a CSN store to give away… but then I was thinking, what is everyone going to want? MONEY! So the winner will receive a $60 gift certificate to any CSN store. Today I would buy a Kalencom diaper bag. Tomorrow maybe some Melissa and Doug baby toys- Isabelle gets bored so easily with hers.

Here are the entry rules, peeps:

1.  To enter, leave a comment telling me about your most favorite birthday memory.

2. You can get another entry by leaving an additional comment if you are a follower of micciandjazz.blogspot.com

3. You can get ANOTHER entry by posting to this bloggity blog on facebook or twitter or whatever social network you prefer and then notifying me via comment. (each social network = additional comment)

4. You must be a resident of the US or Canada. Sorry, Mexico, better luck next time.

5. Contest closes July 16th at 7 pm PST.

On my *birthday* I’ll pick the winner via random generator. Sound good?

Even though I don’t FEEL older, I can tell that my brain isn’t as awesome as it used to be. Sometimes I do embarrassing things, like say the word “emergentness” in adult conversation, fully confident that it is a real word. Or, remember that one time I thought I could jump up the brick at the Chipman’s house? And I beefed it? Fairly hard? I guess I’m not very athletic either. Aaand I just had to check with Jazz to make sure I’m not turning 27 this year. See what I mean?

K- ready set goooo!

PS I just re-read my blog and realized that I had listed the number three twice. 1, 2, 3, 3, 4. Isn’t that how it goes?

  5. my favorite birthday memory was the first birthday I celebrated with my husband (bf back then). He took me to a gorgeous revolving restaurant in downtown Phoenix for dinner, and the desert was Creme Brulee with a chocolate thingy on top that just said “happy birthday” it was perfect and romantic!

  7. My favorite birthday memory was when I was five. We traveled a lot that summer, and most of it was in the US. I was the cute little 5 year old niece from Canada who was born on the 4th of July! Everywhere we went, my relatives threw a birthday party for me. Even in Canada. In Chester, Montana, the gift I received was a full scale cowgirl outfit. I still have the cowgirl hat to this day – 42 years later!! It was a great summer for a five year old. What a memory.

  10. My favorite birthday memory was, in fact, my last birthday (31!) when I rented a lazer tag joint for an hour and invited all my oldish adult friends to run around like maniacs shooting eachother for an hour. It. Was. Awesome. And my favorite birthday party to date.

  15. Happy Birthday week and Happy Birthday friday! 26 ain't so bad! 😉 My favorite birthday memory? That is easy. My 21st birthday. I had a huge birthday dinner with friends at the Olive Garden. Then the next day, my dad, my best friend, and I hopped on a plane and went to the Bahamas! It was a fun and good time in my life when I was happy, I was healthy and confident, and I was with people I love. THAT was a good birthday!

  16. Favorite birthday memory: The last birthday before we got engaged, Ryan got me the most thoughtful, handmade binder of my favorite music in guitar tabs with special notes and thoughts from all the friends I had just left in Trinidad. I think it's the only time I've ever cried opening a birthday present.

  21. It was a dark, dreary night in Madrid. I had six chickens left, and Charlie, I didn't know where the seven of us where going to find a bed that night. I turned the corner onto La Salsa. Cluckster, the smallest of my chickens, was having a hard time keeping up in the rain. “Slow down, will ya” he yelled to me. “Oh sorry, Cluckster. I forgot you were on crutches.”Cluster shuffled along on his tiny wooden crutches. I couldn't tell for sure, but I think he swore at me under his beak. The rain started to tear down ferociously. I was worried for my chickens and my self. I opened up my wallet. It was soggy. I had sixteen yen left. Not enough for a hotel. Looking up, I saw a light on in the next corner, at the local roller skating rink. They might take us in for the night. But the chickens? Who knows.”C'mon guys, let's try this place out.”The seven of us were starting to smell. I could smell us. We smelled like a bad jamon y queso sandwich that had been run over by a marathon of runners.I knocked three times at the door of the old roller rink. The door was soggy, and covered with old rusting gold and green posters. DISCO. DANCING. USA. Just as I was about to turn around back into the rain, the door creaked open and an old hand shot out. “Come in.”The chickens followed me as we walked down a hall, full of cobwebs. “Thank you,” I muttered, coughing.”Anywhere to sleep will be just fine. My chickens and I are just grateful for your kindness.”The small figure didn't respond, just kept walking down the hall.Panic struck me suddenly. Was this guy just looking for an easy, anonymous chicken dinner? We turned around the corner, hesitantly. It was pitch black. I was prepared for us to meet our fate. And poor old Cluckster, he'd be the first to go as the weakest among us. “SURPRISE!!!!”The lights switched on. Hundreds of people were yelling. Balloons filled the ceiling of the roller rink. All my friends and associates were there, from the last 1000 years of my life. “Did you guys know about this?” I asked my chickens suspiciously. They all looked up at me sheepishly. “You GUYS!” I said. This is awesome!People came up and piled my arms up with birthday notes and presents. From the corner of my eye, I saw Cluckster throw aside his crutches and throw on a pair of roller skates and hit the rink. That little fake cripple. This was turning into the best surprise birthday party from the future ever. The year was 3029.

  23. The best birthday memory that I can think of at this time (yah… old age is tickin with me too, woman and it's takin' it's toll on the mind!) happened only last year when I went to Mexico for Lexi's Bachelorette party… the week of my birthday. i did NOT want to go on a boat and be stranded in nowheresville, mexico on MY birthday. but alas, i sucked it up and ended up having the time of my life. i spent the day in the sun, meeting new people, eating and drinking and being merry, walking around ensenada, a man even made me a special balloon hat! the cell phone God's shed their light on me and i was able to receive my birthday wishes from the United States and even got a call from brother in Japan… this one will be hard to top! 🙂
